
Makawiwili Ridge
Also known as the "Saddle in the Sky", the ridge is located between two mountain peaks, the Mt. Mandalagan of Silay and the the active crater peak of Mt. Kanlaon, and frequently used by climbers as vantage point in observing the two craters of Kanlaon Volcano.
Mt. Makawiwili ridge is a towering 8,000 feet high peak that is situated between two mountain peaks among the many ranges of Mt. Kanlaon. It can be found in the city of Canlaon, Negros Oriental which is approximately 9.5 kilometers from the foot of Mt. Kanlaon and 167.5 kilometers from the provincial capital of Dumaguete City.
It is an elevated platform that many climbing enthusiasts and sightseers consider as a perfect vantage point for monitoring the volcanic activities of Mt. Kanlaon, for observing the many life forms in the area, and for appreciating all of Mt. Kanlaon’s phenomenal views. It is also ideal for setting up radio communication satellites. The ridge also provides ample space for a quick rest as well as sufficient camping grounds for backpackers and trekkers.
